Girl Streamers

Back in early 2010s Twitch was slowly taking off as a platform for gamers. That’s what it was supposed to be from the very beginning: a haven for all kinds of gamers who would stream their gaming sessions for everyone who’s interested. At the time Twitch users were predominantly male. But now it’s also a home for top female streamers with millions of viewers. Every day they challenge the stereotype that gaming is a guys-only kind of entertainment.

But even though gaming streams are still very popular on Twitch, it’s not all girl streamers are about. These days they cover all kinds of topics such as art, cosplay, fandoms, and many others. Female Twitch streamers are young, beautiful, active and aren’t afraid to speak their mind. And top female streamers can give their male peers a run for their money.

Speaking of which, what about the materialistic side of the matter? Well, most popular female Twitch streamers are living proof of the fact that having a vivid personality and the ability to grasp the audience’s attention pays. The Twitch top girls you’ll find below are doing it right. Who knows? Maybe their example will inspire you to join them.

1. Pokimane

  • Real name: Imane Anys
  • Age: 23 (born May 14, 1996)
  • Joined Twitch: 2013
  • Number of subscribers: 4 million (March 2020)
  • Income: around $250, 000 a year

Pokimane is a streamer of Canadian and Moroccan descent. She started her Twitch career back in 2013 when she streamed her League of Legends gaming sessions. Thanks to her sincere, enthusiastic and casual attitude, Imane blew up on Twitch gaining an army of dedicated subs.
This breathtaking success made Imane reconsider her life choices and make a difficult decision. Abandoning her aspiration to become a chemical engineer, she dropped out of Canadian McMaster University and relocated to Los Angeles, California. There she finally could become a full-time streamer.

League of Legends streams were followed by Fortnite gaming sessions and interspersed with some real life streams and podcasts.

Pokimane is known for taking an active part in multiple social events, both gaming-related and not. She loves interacting with her audience and considering the fact that she is an absolute leader among female streamers at the moment, her viewers appreciate it.

  • Joined Twitch: 2016
  • Number of subscribers: 1.4 million (March 2020)

Abril Garza Alonso, widely known as AriGameplays, is the youngest streamer on this list and also the only one who’s a non-English speaker. Abril hails from Mexico, broadcasts her streams in Spanish and attracts lots of viewers thanks to her happy go lucky attitude and exuberant personality.

Interestingly, although AriGameplays joined Twitch three years ago, her channel blew up more recently. Last year she managed to outrank other popular Twitch streamers and win the silver by becoming the second most popular female broadcaster after Pokimane. This success was not dampened by the fact that Abril’s channel was suspended for two weeks due to “sexually suggestive content”. Now her channel is thriving with a whopping 1.4 million followers.

AriGameplays became popular thanks to Minecraft streams, but soon Abril switched to other popular gaming titles like Fortnite and Overwatch. On her channel, you can find let’s plays and game walkthroughs, along with her ever-cheerful commentary and subscriber interaction.

Now, however, Amouranth has to compete with AriGameplays. At the moment two girls have almost the same number of subscribers.

Unlike the previous two streamers, Amouranth isn’t focused on gaming. One of Kaitlyn’s biggest passions is costume design and this is what made her Twitch career sky-rocket. She loves cosplay, she enjoys dressing up and doesn’t care if her new image might be a little bit risque.
Apart from that, Amouranth is well known for her ASMR streams and real-life rants. Twitch modeling is far from being her only source of income, but her estimated income on the platform is quite hefty and quite possibly goes up to over $400.000 a year.

And while some of her subscribers feel disappointed about this, it’s totally understandable why a popular streamer like Loeya would like to maintain her privacy.

She started playing video games as early as in school and joined Twitch relatively recently, in 2017. At first, it was not more than a hobby, but later, when her channel started growing rapidly, Loeya started streaming full-time. As Loeya herself admitted, her parents weren’t happy with this decision, but they gradually get used to the idea. No wonder, as Loeya’s streaming provides quite a nice income.

However, it’s not her gaming skills that made her quite (in)famous. Fortunately or not, Alinity is much more well-known for multiple controversies she seems to get involved in on a regular basis. Feuds with other popular streamers, copyright claiming other streamers’ content and even animal abuse are a few things she’s been accused of.

Her controversial reputation notwithstanding, Alinity is still going strong and her already massive subscriber base keeps increasing. Although Natalia has a substantial following on other social media platforms like YouTube, Twitter and Instagram, Twitch still seems to provide a lion’s share of her earnings.

STPeach is a great example of how someone can turn their passion into a profitable career. By Lisa’s own admission, her love for video games was born long before she joined Twitch. Until recently she had to combine game streaming with her career as a dental assistant, but not so long ago she realized that she would like to make video games and vlogging her full-time occupation. Considering a large number of subscribers and the unwaning popularity of her channel, she doesn’t get to regret the decision.

As a Twitch streamer, Samantha mostly produces streams for the Just Chatting and Variety sections, but you can also occasionally see her playing popular games like League of Legends or World of Warcraft.

Like some other streamers on this list, Pink_Sparkles was involved in some controversy and even temporarily banned from Twitch after showing off her ample bosom and performing a kind of a lap dance. However, despite that unfortunate occurrence, she is still streaming and her fan base keeps growing.

So much so that she even made a decision to drop out of her alma mater and pursue a full-time career as an Esport gamer.

  • Joined Twitch: 2013
  • Number of subscribers: 756.000 (March 2020)
  • Income: approx. $40.000 a year

Sonja Reid known to Twitch fans as OMGitsfirefoxx is yet another Canadian-born female streamer who now resides in Portland. However, she had to quit studying to keep streaming as much as she wanted – something quite common for prominent Twitch streamers, both male and female.
OMGitsfirefoxx’s streams don’t focus on one particular gaming title. Her interests are quite varied and include games like Minecraft, Overwatch, CS: GO, League of Legends and many others.

Yep, it’s that person you think it is. Some female Twitch streamers just don’t need introduction, and this is exactly the case. For those of you who don’t know, Sasha Grey became known among certain audiences by working as an actress in adult movies. However, since her porn career started and reached its height, she proved to have lots of varied talents. Now Sasha Grey is known as an actress, author, deejay, model, and activist.

And besides all that, she has an undeniably charismatic personality. Perhaps this is what makes her streams so appealing: though she only joined Twitch last year, she already has a substantial subscriber base of 354 thousand.

During her streams, Sasha plays games, chats about real life, or reacts to some events and/or online content. Judging by her rapidly growing Twitch following, there are lots of people highly interested to see Sasha play Witcher 3 or Resident Evil 2, hear her clever comments and interact with her in chat.

Can you become a successful Twitch streamer if you are a woman? Yes, you totally can! This list is yet another proof that there’s nothing impossible if you are really passionate about something. Does it pay? Yes, it does, though it might prove to be trickier. Going to Twitch with the sole purpose of earning money isn’t a good idea. The competition is massive and unless you really love streaming and have an engaging personality, you might find it very hard to get to the top.

Keep in mind that the yearly Twitch earnings mentioned here are approximate. Usually, Twitch streamers have several sources of income: subscriber views, ad revenue, donations, to name a few. In most cases, they prefer not to disclose full information on how much they earn on the platform, for understandable reasons.
