You may not be an Instagram travel influencer (yet), but that doesn’t mean you can’t use their hashtag strategy to grow your following and get your photos out there.
Top Instagram Travel Hashtags
The right tag can help booster your views, get more people commenting on your content, and help people discover that you’re totally worth following. But, more than that, hashtags can also help you find a community of fellow Instagrammers who travel like you do.

Popular Travel Hashtags
Using the top travel marks help immensely to spread your work around the globe. Build up your own process and optimize it based on the outcome.
It is not always the best idea to use the most trending tags as your photo will stay in the first search page for just one or two seconds because many other people have been using the same popular travel mark for their photos too. Use less popular ones, at least you have more seconds in the first page, although fewer people looking for that hashtag too.

Hashtags for Travel Bloggers
Have you ever wondered what the best travel hashtags for travel bloggers and writers are to use on Instagram? Their goal as travel writers is to grow their following and connect with the fans and other writers as well as marketing and PR.
Keep in mind that #travelblogger tag competition is pretty tough. So it is better to use other tags related to travel, travel writing, travel blogging or travel photography.

Funny Travel Hashtags
In addition to the Instagram clichés of beach feet selfies, globetrekkers are constantly coming up with new, nerdy, and hilarious ways to hashtag every part of their journeys.
Photos tagged with #kicksonaplane are self-portraits of sorts, focusing on your own shoes as you sit on an airplane, ready to take off for a new adventure. The mark was started by Marcus Troy, a brand strategist who uploaded a photo of his Converse on an Air Canada flight to Toronto. It caught on with his followers and has spread from there to include nearly 3,000 images.
If you like #Disneybound, also check out #DapperDay, a hashtag for the special weekends every year when 20,000 dress up in retro and “dapper” style for a visit to the theme parks.

Nature Hashtags
Instagram provides fantastic opportunities for nature-loving photographers to showcase their talents. If you are posting outdoor, nature-focused photos, you might be better making use of the below hashtags.
A good way to get additional attention is to make sure your post appears in the most recent posts on a feed for as long as possible. Unfortunately, this is incredibly difficult for the most popular hashtags. For example, research indicates that posts to a hashtag with 10 million posts disappear from the first nine posts in the feed within three minutes. The #naturelover tag has over 14 million users. So, while content still disappears rapidly, it hangs around for a bit longer than the posts to #nature.

Outdoor Hashtags
When posting outdoors photos and videos it’s important to understand what the best outdoor Instagram hashtags are. Can you get simpler than using #outdoors on a post that’s about the outdoors? It might seem obvious, but remember that the point of hashtags is to categorize and help people find your post. If you want people searching for outdoor pictures or videos to find yours, this is one of the best outdoor Instagram hashtags to include. #outdoor pictures can range from nature shots and animal photos to pictures of people relaxing outside.
Another thing when picking out the right outdoor Instagram tags to use is to keep things simple. One-word hashtags rule the day, probably because they are easy to remember and easy to tap out on a phone’s keyboard.

Local Hashtags
Not only will hashtagging your location help you get discovered, but it will also help you inform your followers about where you’re traveling. This way, they can get inspired to travel too.
Tags to try: Be specific, like #LosAngeles, #California or #London, #England; or try a few variants like #ItalyStyle, #Germany_Insta
How to Choose the Right Hashtags?
Don’t go for the obvious, over-used hashtags like #Travel, #Adventure, #Explore — their audience has gotten too big to compete with. #Travel, for example, has more than 286 million mentions, meaning it will be nearly impossible for your content to be discovered. Instead, try variants on these hashtag classics to increase your chances of being spotted.
Want to get featured on a bigger account? Make sure to use their hashtag. For example, Travel + Leisure followers add #TLPicks to their photos so we can see them and maybe give them a repost.

Hashtag Generator
If you need some help here, there is a tool that could generate hashtags for you. One of the apps is called Dehaze Instagram hashtags generator and it is very simple to use.
On the left side, you select the photo style (in our case travel) and on the right side the city or country. As a result, Dehaze provides a list of 25 popular travel hashtags.
Another nice hashtags generator is Photerloo. It’s actually quite impressive. In this case, you do not need to go through a list or a menu, you just need to load the image and Photerloo will analyze the photo and it will propose the right marks.
You can also select your strategy when the hashtags are generated, from most to least popular (more people looking for it but higher competition, or less popular but lower competition too). Of course, not all generated hashtags are correct, you need to filter them, it’s basically a good starting point.
How Many Travel Hashtags Should You Use?
The most common answer is 30. I know it seems like a lot, but hashtags will produce the most likes, comments and organic followers for your account. If you use more than 30 tags on a post your comment won’t post. If you post more than 30 tags in your main post, the tags won’t appear in search.
However, some research suggests that 11 is the perfect number for attracting new followers. You’re likely to see more engagement if you use anywhere from 8 to 12 hashtags. Posts with nine hashtags seem to have the highest rates of engagement.
Summary
Perhaps it’s essential that you choose hashtags that have something to do with your post. If you’re putting up a landscape photo, then using #landscape makes sense. But if you’re publishing a close-up of birds or a picture of a rushing river, #landscape has no place in your post. You can also be creative with your tags.
